Join the Military Veterans in Journalism community for #MVJ26.

The 2026 Military Veterans in Journalism Convention and Career Fair will take place as a hybrid event. MVJ26 will kick off with one half-day of virtually-held educational conversation, the annual Top Ten Veterans in Journalism Awards ceremony and a virtual career fair on August 24, 2026. Then, from August 28 to October 2, local convenings will bring local publications, affiliates, supporting organizations and national newsrooms to connect with the MVJ community in-person in New York City, Washington, D.C., Columbia, South Carolina and San Antonio, Texas. Finally, MVJ26 will conclude with a series of newsroom-specific virtual convenings where top newsrooms from across the country will share deeper insight into their newsrooms and chat one-on-one with MVJ community members about the opportunities available to them.

We welcome veterans, military spouses, newsroom professionals, and supporters of diversity in the industry to join us for networking and shared growth.

#MVJ26 VIRTUAL SUMMIT

Held via Zoom, #MVJ26’s national convening portion will feature panels, workshops and conversation to drive learning, spark growth, and help bridge the gap between veterans and civilian journalists across the country, all from the comfort of home.

#MVJ26 will kick off with this virtual day of programming on August 24, 2026.

Following the #MVJ26 virtual kick-off, members will be able to connect in-person with opportunity close to home at one of the #MVJ26 Local Convenings:

  • New York, New York – August 28, 2026
  • Columbia, South Carolina – September 2026
  • San Antonio, Texas – September 2026
  • Washington, D.C. – October 2, 2026

Each Local Convening will feature its own panels or workshops geared toward what’s most needed locally, as well as a selection of local news affiliates and national organizations.

Held via Zoom, this series of partner newsroom spotlight and recruitment sessions offers another chance to chat with top newsrooms and journalists across the country, learn more about the history and work environment of each, and seek new career opportunity.

The first of these sessions will be held on August 31, 2026, with the final one on October 28, 2026 to close out #MVJ26.

Become a Member of MVJ

Military Veterans in Journalism, also known as MVJ, is a professional association that creates community for veterans and military spouses in the news field, supports their career growth, and advocates for increasing newsroom diversity through hiring more vets.

Via fellowships, internships, mentorships and more, MVJ provides opportunities for veterans and spouses to jumpstart their careers.

Membership is not required to register for or attend #MVJ26. However, MVJ members can register to attend at a reduced cost.
